After every answer you see tokens and costs – per message, chat, project and month. If a provider reports no usage, the app estimates it on your device; estimated amounts are marked “approx.”. If a provider supplies no prices, you can enter your own – otherwise the app shows “Price unknown”. Your provider’s billing is always what counts.

No middleman by design.
Most AI apps route your prompts through their own servers. Byokey removes that step entirely: your iPhone or iPad speaks directly to the provider you chose, and no server of ours sits in between. If that provider is an aggregator such as OpenRouter, it forwards your request to the operator of the model you selected.

Common questions.
Yes. The app itself is free to download and use. You only pay the provider you choose for the model usage, at the same rate they charge directly.
Your keys are stored in the iOS Keychain on your device. They are never uploaded to our servers; each key is sent only to the provider it belongs to, to authenticate your requests.
You can add keys from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, and many others. OpenRouter support gives you access to a wide range of models through one connection.
No. Every request goes directly from your iPhone or iPad to the provider's API. We do not route, log, or store your messages. Exception: if you send us a report about an answer by e-mail from the app, that e-mail contains an excerpt of the answer.
Byokey is designed for iPhone running iOS 18 or later. On iPad (iPadOS 18 or later) it runs as an iPhone app. Mac support may come in a future update.
